Projects

Public space and narratives inspire me. I work on projects which bring the two together. In 2021 I worked with Anna Abrahams on the VR productrion The Angels of Amsterdam, portraying the female side of Amsterdam's Golden Age.

Projects documenting spatial fall-out of Holland's extreme logistic and (agro)industrial economy are in the pipeline. 

Project Telling Samples

The bottom corner of a window. A wall and an opening. The same detail over and over again, but so many expressions, narratives and technologies. Materials, components, seams, dimensions, finish, texture, ambitions, ornament all organized to get daylight into a building and keeping wind, water out.

Teaching

Producing work and getting students to discover and understand some of the things an architect should know and be able to do - A combination of instruction, coaching and exchanging experience and views.

These are some of the works I have been involved in lately at TU Eindhoven, Academy of Architecture Arnhem and our sister schools in Strasbourg and Konstanz.

About

After graduating at TU Eindhoven in 1987and gaining experience with Jo Coenen and at Architecture Intermundium with Daniel Libeskind, Jeff Kipnis, Peter Eisenman, Josef Paul Kleihues and others, together with Annette Marx I co-founded Marx&Steketee architecten in 1989.

During the next thirty odd years this company was the platform for countless innovative designs, team efforts and highly creative projects involving talented artists and engineers.

Working as an architect for nearly thirty years, designing homes as well as places for work and study for hundreds of people has given me the experience to reflect on and teach architecture.

I have always remained a teacher, eager to share experiences and inspire new generations.
